Media give presidents celebrity, not legitimacy – Buenos Aires Herald

Even the region’s most revolutionary leaders seem to succumb to the temptation of seeing themselves on the big screen. That’s the key point being made in Política Pop (“Pop Politics”), the new book by Adriana Amado, doctor of social sciences at the Latin American University of Social Ciences (Flacso). In this week’s Herald interview, Amado discusses the celebrity tendencies of some of the region’s recent presidents, including Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Inácio Lula da Silva, Hugo Chávez and Álvaro Uribe.
