MarketWatch – Chevron says one expert’s testimony faked in suit
Date: Apr 5, 2010
Chevron Corp. said Monday a technical expert in a multi-billion dollar environmental lawsuit against the oil giant has submitted sworn testimony that the plaintiffs in the case used fraudulent reports in an Ecuadorian court. Charles W. Calmbacher, a U.S. biologist appointed for the plaintiffs, said reports associated with inspections of well sites were submitted in his name without his knowledge or consent, Chevron said. Steven Donziger, an attorney for the plaintiffs, told Dow Jones Newswires that Calmbacher’s reports amounted to a small part of the overall case; other tests have shown contamination at dozens of sites.
