Ecuador landscape

Relatives of five people arrested four months ago in Sucumbios are on their second consecutive day of hunger strike on Tuesday, demanding justice for the victims of political persecution in Ecuador.

The action has been taking place since Monday outside the National Court of Justice, where the trial hearing against ex-president Rafael Correa, ex-vice president Jorge Glas and other 19 people is taking place for the alleged crime of bribery, rejected by the accused.

The detainees, considered by many social organizations and lawyers victims of political persecution, are assemblyman Yofre Poma, Victor Burbano, Carlos Chacha, Gonzalo Villamil and Roberto Pachacama.
