News on Ecuador President Rafael Correa’s efforts to influence the media:
Mr Correa has often criticised local media as being corrupt, mediocre and biased in favour of the interests of conservative owners. Draft legislation, which local media have dubbed “the gag law”, would establish a council chaired by a government official to oversee the media and permit only those with a journalism degree to work in the media.
