Ecuador’s national electoral council said Tuesday that the results of the country’s presidential vote are irreversible, giving ruling party candidate Lenin Moreno the victory. Juan Pablo Pozo, the president of the electoral council, said Mr. Moreno received 51.2% of the votes compared with 48.8% for conservative ex-banker Guillermo Lasso, with almost all the ballots counted. Pressure on Mr. Lasso, who has claimed fraud, came from unexpected quarters, with conservative politicians saying he needs to provide real evidence of wrongdoing. Read more>>
