The referendum, supported by President Rafael Correa, also calls for controversial judicial reforms that would see the Council of the Judiciary replaced by a three-person panel, with one member appointed by the president, one by the National Assembly–in which Correa has a majority–and one by the Transparency and Social Control Function.
