“Ecuador’s president proposes controls on press ‘excesses’

“President Rafael Correa proposed new regulations to control the “excesses” of media outlets that he believes practice “freedom of extortion” instead of freedom of expression, EFE and The Associated Press report. At his inauguration ceremony for a new four-year term as president, Correa said that though he respects independent media, governments need to “lose their fear” of the press. ”
